Restorative Yoga - Healing in Nature.

“Stillness, insight and wisdom arise only when we can settle into being complete in this moment, without having to seek or hold on to or reject anything.” -Jon Kabat-Zinn (2005)

Restorative Yoga is an invitation to go inside, internally nourishing and allowing the body to do what it needs to do to heal and restore.  Slowly, we feel into more softening, and spaciousness – a place where our nervous system gets the attention it needs and where great things can happen when we experience parasympathetic dominance (state of relaxation).

There’s no doing in Restorative Yoga. For some of us this ability to fully relax, to stay still can feel near impossible and very challenging to practice. Just know though that restorative yoga whilst passive is very productive.

We take time to travel inwards releasing deeply rooted patterns that sometimes can be blocking or limiting our highest potential. Together, gently, and deliberately we work to be able to digest the present moment as it is and restore balance. The use of props such as blocks, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows in Restorative Yoga provide for thoughtful inquiry and gives us direct physical feedback whilst fostering the confidence to grow our own practice.

Restorative Yoga uses passive postures and no muscular effort to invite the whole body into relaxation and easy flow of breath. restorative yoga class typically involves 5-8 poses supported with props and held for anywhere from 10-15 minutes. Most restorative yoga poses are based on the practices of B.K.S. Iyengar and involve gentle twists, back bends and inversions, using props to support full relaxation of mind and body.

My name is Jan Ungerer and I am a qualified Restorative Yoga Teacher. I have had the good fortune in the past 30 years or so, to have been taught by and worked alongside many skilled yoga and mindfulness teachers and was even lucky enough to have spent time in the company of Guru B.K. Pattabhi Jois.  As much as I learnt in my time of study and practice and through listening to their collective wisdom - the most powerful and transformative experiences have come through my own trial and errors of practice and learning through teaching students. I am a leadership coach, a yoga teacher , mother and grandmother. No matter your age, or what current or past ailments and injuries you may have or how time poor, inflexible, uncoordinated, you think you may be: Yoga has a whole kit bag of tools for you to take into your everyday.

Join me in transforming body, mind and spirit by accessing these deeper levels of relaxation. Embrace the pauses and transform the stresses of daily life.
